Dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ Who loved us, gave Himself for us, and washed us from our sins in His own Blood; and to the Church, which is His body.

Romans 6:5

The Healing Name of Jesus

The name of the Lord Jesus Christ signifies healing.

There is authority in His name.

Jesus said, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.
Until now you have asked nothing in My name.
Ask and you will receive, that your joy may be full"
John 16:23,24.

Whatever we ask the Father in the name of Jesus, He will give us.

To ask in Jesus' name means to ask according to His will, to ask as He would ask.

The earthly ministry of Jesus reveals that His will is regarding sickness and disease to be healed.

He never turned away anyone who came to Him for healing, but healed them all.

So then, when we ask for healing in the name of Jesus, we are asking as He would ask and in agreement with His will.

When the disciples healed, they did it in the name of Jesus. The name of Jesus is wonderful.

The Bible says, "Your name is ointment poured forth" in Song of Solomon 1:3.

"Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved, Romans 10:13

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved", Acts 16:31.

Paul Raises Eutychus

"Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.
There were many lamps in the upper room where they were gathered together.
And in a window sat a certain young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep; and as Paul continued speaking, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead.

But Paul went down, fell on him, and embracing him said, 'Do not trouble yourselves, for his life is in him.'

Now when he had come up, had broken bread and eaten, and talked a long while, even till daybreak, he departed.

And they brought the young man in alive, and they were not a little comforted."
Acts 20:7-12

Paul threw himself on the boy and embraced him, much like Elijah and Elisha did when they raised the sons of the widows.

Paul said that the life of the young man was in him, and he was well.

Peter Raises Dorcas

"At Joppa there was a certain disciple name Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas.
This woman was full of good works and charitable deeds which she did.
But it happened in those days that she became sick and died.
When they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room..
And since Lydda was near Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent two men to him, imploring him not to delay in coming to them.

Then Peter arose and went with them.
When he had come, they brought him to the upper room.
And all the widows stood by him weeping, showing the tunics and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them.
But Peter put them all out, and knelt down and prayed.

And turning to the body he said, 'Tabitha, arise.'

And she opened her eyes and when she saw Peter she sat up.
Then he gave her his hand and lifted her up; and when he had called the saints and widows, he presented her alive.
And it became known throughout all Joppa and many believed on the Lord."
Acts 9:36-42

When Dorcas died, two men were sent to Peter asking him to come.

The body would have to buried by the end of the day.
They expected Peter could do something, even in the short time.

Peter had expected that he could do something for her.

When Peter arrived, he cleared the room of unbelief.

Peter spoke to the body and called her by name telling her to arise.

When Dorcas opened her eyes and sat up, Peter took her by the hand and lifted her up.

Then He presented her to her friends.

Not only was she restored to life, she was restored to strength and arose and walked.

Raising of Lazarus

"Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.
Therefore the sisters sent to Him, saying, 'Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.'
When Jesus heard that, He said, 'This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.'
Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.
So, when He heard that he was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was. . .
After that He said to them [his disciples], 'Our friend Lazarus sleeps, but I go that I may wake him up.'
Then His disciples said, 'Lord, if he sleeps he will get well.'
However, Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that He was speaking about taking rest in sleep.
Then Jesus said to them plainly, 'Lazarus is dead.
And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, that you may believe.
Nevertheless let us go to him.'
So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days. . .
Then Martha,as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house.

Then Martha said to Jesus, 'Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.
But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.'
Jesus said to her, ' Your brother will rise again.'
Martha said to Him, 'I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.'
Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life.
He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.
Do you believe this?'
She said to Him, 'Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.'
. . .When Mary came where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, 'Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.'
Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled.

And He said, 'Where have you laid him?'
They said to Him, 'Lord, come and see.'

Jesus wept.

Then the Jews said, 'See how He loved him!'
And some of them said, 'Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the blind, also have kept this man from dying?'

Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb.
It was a cave, and a stone lay against it.
Jesus said, 'Take away the stone.'

Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, 'Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.'

Jesus said to her, 'Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?'
Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying.
And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, 'Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.
And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.'

Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come forth!'
And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with grave clothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth.
Jesus said to them, 'Loose him and let him go.'"
John 11:1-45

Jesus said from the beginning that his sickness was not unto death.

Jesus told the disciples that Lazarus was dead and they were going to go to him.

Jesus told Martha that her brother will rise again.

Jesus reminded Martha that he who lives and believes in Him shall never die. He got Martha to believe by asking her if she believed Him.

Martha released her faith and told Jesus that she did believe.

Jesus had the stone removed from the tomb so Lazarus could come out.

Then Jesus thanked God that He heard Him and always heard Him.

He then called Lazarus to come out and for the others to loose him.

Lazarus was alive and free.

Raising of Jairus' Daughter

"So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed Him for they were all waiting for Him.
And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the sysnagogue.
And he fell down at Jesus' feet and begged Him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying. . .
Someone came from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying, 'Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher.'
But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, 'Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well.'
When He came into the house, He permitted no one to go in except Peter, James and John, and the father and mother of the girl.
Now all wept and mourned for her; but He said, 'Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping.'
And they ridiculed Him, knowing that she was dead.
But He put them all outside, took her by the hand and called, saying, 'Little girl, arise.'
Then her spirit returned, and she arose immediately.
And He commanded that she be given something to eat.
And her parents were astonished, but He charged them to tell no one what had happened.'"
Luke 8:40-56

Jairus came to Jesus, asking Him to come to his house, expecting his daughter would be healed.

When his servants brought news of his daughter's death, but Jesus told him not to be afraid, only believe and she will be made well.

Jairus obeyed and continued to bring Jesus to his daughter.

Then Jesus sent out all unbelief from the room.

He laid His hand on the little girl and told her to arise.

The Anointed One

"And that very hour He cured many of infirmities, afflictions and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight.
Jesus answered and said to them [John the Baptist's disciples], 'Go and tell John [the Baptist, who's in prison] the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.'"
Luke 7:22

Jesus Raises a Widow's Son

"Now it happened, the day after, that He [Jesus] went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd.
And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow.
And a large crowd from the city was with her.

When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to 'do not weep.'

Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still.
And He said, 'Young man, I say to you, arise.'

So he who was dead sat up and began to speak.
And He presented him to his mother."
Luke 7:11-15

Jesus told the mother not to weep because He intended on raising her son back to life.

Jesus touched the coffin, even though it would have been considered ceremonially unclean.
It wasn't and idle touch, because He intended on raising the young man from death.

Jesus spoke a word of command when He said, "Young man, I say to you, arise."

Raising the Dead

The Bible says, "But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you"
Romans 8:11.

The Spirit of God, whose power raised the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead, will one day give resurrection life to our bodies as well.

But that same Spirit also dwells in us today.

His power is now present in us and is able to bring life and health to our bodies.

Accounts in the New Testament of people being raised from the dead are not immortal but restored to life.

Their lives were the result of sickness and disease which is death.
They encourage us that there is no sickness, disease or any other condition that is too difficult for God to deal with.
He is able to restore the health of a person fully and completely, even when the very breath of life has gone out of them.

The power of God that raises the dead is the same power that heals the sick.

We need to enlarge our expectations.

In the Old Testament, a few dead were raised to life.
In the New Testament, even more were restored.
In fact, Jesus sent His disciples to "heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons"
Matthew 10:8

At the Great Commission, He charged them to make other disciples, "Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you"
Matthew 28:20

This would include raising the dead. Nothing in the words of Jesus leaves it out.
In fact, Jesus said, "He who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father"
John 14:12.

Jesus and His disciples raised the dead, and many other restorations have been recorded in Church history, particularly in this last century.

We should expect to see it happen more and more.

The Resurrection

In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul teaches on the significance of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead and how that guarantees the resurrection of all those who believe in Him.

"But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.
But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming.
Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.
For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet.
The last enemy that will be destroyed is death."
1 Corinthians 15:20-26

Raising the Dead

The Bible records a number of people who died and was restored to life.

Elijah brought the widow of Zaraphath's son back to life in 1 Kings 17:17-24.

When the son of a Shunnamite woman died, Elisha raised him from the dead in 2 Kings 4:25-27.

A dead man who was thrown into Elisha's grave was restored to life when his body came into contact with the bones of Elisha in 2 Kings 13:20-21.

Each of these people actually died and was restored to life, but they were not resurrected, not in the biblical sense.

In the Bible, the resurrection of God's people [Christians] refers not merely to the restoration of life, but it speaks of the transformation and glorification of the body.

Resurrection indicates immortality.

Those who were raised from the dead, eventually died again, but those who are resurrected will never die again.

Signs Will Follow

The Great Commission is still in effect and operative today.

The authority of Jesus and the powerful anointings of the Holy Spirit are still in the church:

*to preach the Gospel to everyone
*to make disciples of all nations
*to baptize them
*to teach them everything Jesus
taught the first disciples to do the
  works of Jesus
*to be witnesses of Jesus
*to lay hands on the sick and heal
  them
*to cast out demons

Jesus has chosen us to be with Him.

As we begin to know Him, love Him,
learn from Him, and grow in fellowship with Him, we should expect to see healings and miracles happen more and more.

We should expect not only to receive these things for ourselves, but to be discipled in how to minister them to others.

"And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons .... They will lay hand on the sick and they shall recover."
Mark 16:17,18

Paul Heals on Island of Malta

"In that region there was an estate of the leading citizen of the island, whose name was Publius, who received us and entertained us courteously for three days.
And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery.
Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his hands on him and healed him.
So when this was done, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed."
Acts 28:7-9

When Paul prayed for Publius' father by laying hands on him and he was healed; the rest of the people who heard brought those who had diseases, and sick, and they were healed.

Paul Heals by Handkerchiefs

"Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them."
Acts 19:11-12

Just as there were many who touched the hem of Jesus' garment and were healed, healing power transferred also from Paul through his garments.

Paul Heals a Lame Man

"And in Lystra a certain man without strength in his feet was sitting, a cripple from his mother's womb, who had never walked.

This man heard Paul speaking.

Paul, observing him intently and seeing that he had faith to be healed, said with a loud voice, 'Stand up straight on your feet!'
And he leaped and walked."
Acts 14:8-10

Paul discerned that the man had faith and he acted on that discernment. [Paul perceived that the man had faith. So he knew the man needed to put it in action].

Paul told the man to stand on his feet.
By having him do what he couldn't do before, he gave the man a way to act his faith.

Peter Heals Aeneas

"Now it came to pass, as Peter went through all parts of the country, that he also came down to the saints who dwelt in Lydda.
There he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden eight years and was paralyzed.

And Peter said to him, 'Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed.'

Then he arose immediately.

So all who dwelt in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord.'"
Acts 9:32-34

Peter said that Jesus the Christ had healed him.

He focused the man's attention on Jesus as the source of all healing and that there was no doubt that Jesus would heal him.

Peter told the man to arise and make his bed.

He expected Aeneas to be healed and told him to do what he could not do before.

Aeneas obeyed and arose immediately.

And all those who saw what had happened turned to the Lord [believed on Him].

Disciples Did Many Signs and Wonders

"And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people."
Acts 6:8

"Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them.
And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.
And there was great joy in that city."
Acts 8:5-8

"Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias, and to him the Lord said in a vision, 'Ananias.'
'Here I am, Lord.'
So the Lord said to him, 'Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying.
...And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.'
And Ananias went his way and entered the house, and laying his hands on him he said, 'Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.'
Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.
So when he had received food, he was strengthened.
Then Saul spent some days with the disciples at Damascus.'"
Acts 9:10-12&17-19

"Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands."
Acts 14:3

The disciples spoke boldly in the Lord.

They performed signs and wonders.

Signs and Wonders by the Disciples

"And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people.
And they were all with one accord in Solomon's Porch.
Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly.

And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them.
Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed."
Acts 5:12-16

The transfer of healing power, even through the shadow of Peter is similar to the transfer of healing power which came from Jesus through His garment.

They were all healed.

The disciples had the same anointing, power and authority as Jesus did, so they were seeing the same kind of results Jesus did.

Disciples Pray for Healing

"Now, Lord ... grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.
And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness."
Acts 4:29-31

Here we see the power of the Holy Spirit for preaching with boldness, healing and deliverance.

Signs and wonders include healing, casting out devils, giving sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, making whole those who are crippled, raising the dead and other miracles.

Peter and John Heals

"Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.
And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms.
And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, 'Look at us.'
So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.
Then Peter said, 'Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.'
And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them, walking, leaping and praising God.

And all the people saw him walking and praising God.
Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him."
Acts 3:1-10

Peter said that what he had he would give the man. He intended to give him healing.

Peter released the power and authority of Jesus' name.

Peter expected the man to be healed and told him to do what he couldn't do before.

The man believed and obeyed what Peter said and leaped up, stood and walked.

This healing was performed by the power of God, in the name of Jesus, and through faith in His name.

It was by the faith which comes through Jesus; the same faith by which Jesus ministered healing to others.
