The Great Commission has been given to
us just as much as it was given to the
apostles.
Apostles cannot do the work by themselves.
Jesus gave them to the Church in order to
equip us for the work of the ministry.
"It was He who gave some to be apostles,
some to be prohets, and some to be
evangelists, pastors and teachers, to
prepare God's people for works of service,
so that the body of Christ may be built up,
until we all reach unity in the faith and in
the knowledge of the Son of God and
become mature, attaining to the whole
measure of the fullness of Christ."
Ephesians 4:11-13
This is called the "five-fold ministry."
It has been summed up how it functions
within the body of Christ:
The Apostles govern.
The Prophets guide.
The Evangelists gather.
The Pastors guard.
The Teachers ground.
The purpose of the five-fold ministry is
to equip and prepare the saints of God
for the work of the ministry.
The result is that the body of Christ is
built up, until we all come into the unity
of the faith.
